"East Side Eden is dedicated to urban
gardeners. It carries garden sculpture, flower pots, outdoor furniture, plants,
candles, and more decorative items than it seems possible to fit into the small
space.
Knott describes her store as offering "essentials for the urban gardener," but
even the casual shopper will see that it goes beyond that.
"I want to create an atmosphere that is inspiring," she said. "Shopping is a
drudgery. People go to a big box store, get what they need and leave.
"I want people to come in, have a cup of tea and relax."
"Tucked away an a leafy side street off Blackstone Boulevard, a cozy garden shop called East Side Eden is just across the Providence city line in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Pawtucket. Its location--close to but just off the beaten path--makes it feel like a find, a private oasis on the fringe of two cities."
"I'm an urban person who's always loved gardens, and I think that there's something so special about creating a little oasis in a small amount of space, in a little back yard or even on a balcony. You don't need 15 acres and a private gardener."
"For the first time in many decades, the greenhouse in back of the shop is being used as a greenhouse, with exotic indoor plants and topiaries for sale. To the side of the building is an outdoor area where selected annuals and perennials are offered in season."
"Knott says she especially seeks out the work of local artists and small independent companies".."It's all part of her vision of living with nature, blending indoor and outdoor living spaces in a way that makes living in the cit feel like a getaway to the country in our own private Eden."
